The History of Nikko
Nikko is a town in the mountains north of Tokyo, home to the National Park of the same name. It is one of the favorite weekend destinations of Tokyo-ites in the Koyo season, that time of the year from mid Autumn onwards where people gather to watch the turning colors of the maple leaves. There is something about a forest in early morning, after a rainfall, that is quite magical. Add to the mix some temples and mausoleums scattered through the woods and you realize that a stroll through this quiet town also provides a glimpse into the history and culture of Japan.
